O'Neil, who was in her high school year when she took part in the auditions, volunteered in the 3rd season of Canadian Idol in the beginning of 2005. The singer made it through to the top hundred round following the judges' praise for her vocal ability. O'Neil's performance was highly praised by judge. O'Neil got a phone call from Canadian premier Paul Martin to congratulate her on winning Canadian Idol.
